How to Choose Wireless Bluetooth Headset

For people who like audio, the emergence of any new technology is full of great attraction. What is the current wireless Bluetooth headset? How should I choose? Every player who really likes audio needs to face the problem. I will take BOSE Soundsport Free, SONY WF1000X and Astrotec S60 as examples to talk about my own experience and feelings, a word for reference only.

Bluetooth headphones have become popular since Apple cancelled the 3.5mm headset interface for mobile phones. But the real wireless headset really avoids the stethoscope effect and gives users the maximum degree of freedom. But inevitably, the real wireless Bluetooth headset is still a new thing in the development, so there is still a long way to go.

The Modeling and Appearance of Bluetooth Headset

It is often said that beauty is truth! Although not entirely agree with this point of view, but in this age of looking at the face, high face value is indeed easier to succeed! The same is true of products. Everyone will choose the products they like, but this choice is not the only one. In terms of shape and appearance, my personal favorite is SONY WF1000X, then BOSE Soundsport Free, and finally Astrotec S60.

Personally, I like SONY WF1000X’s appearance design very much, perfect streamlined design, very scientific and fashionable sense, body shape is not very big, part of the headset is translucent design, unlike other Bluetooth headset lights, SONY WF1000X ingeniously turns Bluetooth red and blue state indicator lights into decorative lights. Halo, so the design is very clever.

BOSE Soundsport Free has a slightly larger shape and is more suitable for people with large ears. It adopts a flat design style. The earplug has a larger outline. It also has fashion and technological elements, but it feels no SONY WF1000X fluent. After wearing it, I feel a little alien technology style. The design of the lamp is not as clever as that of SONY WF1000X, so its appearance ranks second.

Astrotec S60 is small in shape, bronze in appearance, a bit of classical Chinese flavor, streamlined design, a bit like a variation of vase, design can be said to be quite characteristic, but my personal preference is a bit technical, so Astrotec S60 is not very fond of.

Comfort of Wearing of Bluetooth Headset

BOSE Soundsport Free, SONY WF1000X, Astrotec S60 are all in-ear headphones, but BOSE Soundsport Free has a pair of shark fin earmuffs, although many people think this shark fin-like earmuff design makes it It is more stable during exercise and can prevent falling off, but individuals don’t like this design very much. The BOSE Soundsport Free is slightly larger, and it is not very comfortable for users with small ear canals. The SONY WF1000X and Astrotec S60 are designed to be more streamlined, and the SONY WF1000X’s small fin design is more compact and ergonomically designed for more comfortable wear. The Astrotec S60 needs to be inserted into the ear canal and rotated at a certain angle. The wearing design is clever, but it is not as good as the other two headphones in terms of stability and prevention of falling off. Therefore, if it is necessary to discharge a good or bad, SONY WF1000X is the best, Astrotec S60 and BOSE Soundsport Free are not much different, tied for second.

Operational Comfort of Bluetooth Headset

Like all other products, true wireless headphones should also be used. The operation is simple and convenient, the headphone state can be adjusted quickly, and the response is sensitive, which is a basic requirement for the operation of the earphone. Maybe some headphones have App, which can be adjusted more conveniently, but sometimes, it is more simple and rude direct adjustment, so I will feel the operation of these three headphones in the simplest way. The Astrotec S60 does not have too many operating buttons. On the back of the two headphones, there is a button, and there is a dot LED in the middle of the button on the back. When the headset is connected, the indicator light is normally closed, but the Astrotec S60 headset has no volume adjustment button and needs to be resized by adjusting the volume of the phone. When the Bluetooth connection is disconnected, the headset automatically re-pairs. Basically, this headset should not be too cumbersome to design, the body will automatically match, it is more convenient, but this headset can not adjust the volume at the same time. And there is no separate control between the two headphones. The SONY WF1000X has no volume control, but it can be adjusted by the music player. The two buttons of the SONY WF1000X are independent. When the left earphone is turned on, the earphone of the right ear needs to match the left and right, but the matching is very convenient and the operation is not complicated. So there are very beautiful LED indicators.

BOSE Soundsport Free operates with a right earbud with a volume up and down and a multi-function button, and the left earbud is a Bluetooth connection button. When too many devices are connected, there will be a silent death state of the left ear. At this time, you need to press and hold for 10 seconds to clear the Bluetooth settings, then put them back into the box and charge them, then the ears will be restored. BOSE Soundsport Free’s buttons are a bit stiff, but the volume can be adjusted via the buttons on the right earbuds. There is no particularly obvious indication of the BOSE Soundsport Free working status. When adjusting, you need to look at the inner Bluetooth and working status indicators. In contrast, BOSE Soundsport Free is a bit cumbersome to operate, but it can be adjusted directly through the headphones. SONY WF1000X’s, two-ear earphones need to be paired one by one, which is slightly more complicated, and the SONY WF1000X cannot adjust the volume through the headphones. The Astrotec S60 is also very simple to operate, with the ears automatically connected and automatically paired when disconnected, making operation relatively simple and convenient. The operation of these three headphones is difficult to say, there is a difference between the two.

Life time of Bluetooth Headset

Wireless Bluetooth headset, because the signal is transmitted between the headset and the output, and between the headset and the headset, compared to other types of Bluetooth headsets, the energy consumption is slightly larger, and the battery life is compared to other types. Declined. However, since the true wireless Bluetooth headset is equipped with a storage box, the earphone can be conveniently charged, thus objectively extending the life time of the earphone. Basically, the power of the storage box can be charged 2-3 times for the headphones. The SONY WF1000X has a single battery life of 3 hours, BOSE Soundsport Free has a single battery life of 5 hours, and the Astrotec S60 has a single battery life of 2-3 hours.

The wireless Bluetooth headset has a short single battery life, so the storage box takes responsibility for the headset’s battery life. Basically, the storage box can charge the headset 2-3 times. The Astrotec S60’s storage box uses the Type C USB interface, and the other two headphones use the Type A mini USB interface. The storage boxes of the SONY WF1000X and BOSE Soundsport Free are larger, and the storage box of the Astrotec S60 is smaller. The portability of the Astrotec S60 is more convenient. Astrotec S60 and BOSE Soundsport Free storage boxes have power indications, but the storage box of SONY WF1000X has no power indicator, and it is convenient to use the storage box without two other headphones. But from the design of the storage box, the appearance of BOSE Soundsport Free is more fashionable, Sony’s is deep, and the Astrotec S60 is more simple and lean. According to personal preference, BOSE Soundsport Free is the best, Astrotec S60 is second, and SONY WF1000X is the second.

Signal stability

Current wireless Bluetooth headsets are faced with the problem that the signal is not particularly stable. BOSE Soundsport Free, SONY WF1000X and Astrotec S60 are currently based on the Bluetooth 4 series, so this natural bottleneck will not be much improved if it cannot be overcome. The stability of SONY WF1000X is basically stable in a stable environment. The effective distance of Bluetooth is tested. The straight line distance that can be reached directly is about 15-25 meters. During the test of SONY WF1000X, there will be no sound or dropped frames in the earplugs of the right ear from time to time. The signal of BOSE Soundsport Free is relatively stable. During the test, there are few cases of disconnection or frame dropping, and the effective distance of the line can reach 10-15 meters. The signal of the Astrotec S60 is basically the same, but sometimes the frame drop occurs, and the effective distance of the line can reach 10-15 meters. Basically, the stability of the three headphones is not much different, but the transmission distance of the Sony headphones seems to be farther.

Sound Quality and Sound experience

These three headphones are all Bluetooth transmission in SBC format, which is basically equivalent to MP3 level. After all, they can not compare with LDAC and APTX-HD in sound quality. Although they have different sound quality settings, the difference is not very significant.

SONY WF1000X has a limited depth of dive at low frequencies. When the frequency is very low, the sound and color will be very turbid and somewhat chaotic. High frequencies are crisp, but the pitch is very clear and accurate. The baritone part is naturally soft and beautiful. 5-10 meters of uniform immersion sound field, space sense, but not very strong.

BOSE Soundsport Free has a better dive depth, and the sound is still distinct at bass. The tenor is crisp and melodious, the baritone is warm and plump, the sound quality is clear as a whole, and the pitch is accurate. The sense of space is very clear and intense, with a central immersive sound field.

Astrotec S60 has a slightly lower submergence depth than SONY WF1000X, and has a slightly higher frequency design. When high frequency and low frequency are parallel, the low frequency part will be disturbed. The treble is more crisp and slightly thin, but the sound control is still very good. The middle part is full of nature.

In contrast, the prices of the three headphones are increasing. Different consumer groups are positioned separately. BOSE Soundsport Free is positioned in the consumer group of about 1500-2000 yuan, SONY WF1000X is currently positioned in the consumer group of about 1000 yuan, while Astrotec S60 is positioned in the consumer group of less than 500 yuan.

Conclusion

The current wireless Bluetooth technology is still not perfect. The differences between brands are not very significant. No matter from control, battery life and signal stability, the price/performance ratio is very important. Because wireless sound quality is similar, unless there is a unique preference for the appearance, it is not cost-effective to spend a big price just to show a brand and appearance. Of course, except for a product or brand of brain powder, from the perspective of rational consumption, the most cost-effective product is most suitable. The Astrotec S60 is the most cost-effective. At the current stage, the Astrotec S60 can be used to satisfy the experience of a true wireless Bluetooth headset. Addiction, no need to regret because of the current lack of such products, and the most cost-effective.

    Is there any device that can connect a pair of Bluetooth headsets to the ATR72 aircraft’s audio system for radio reception and transmission? The spare headphones are terrible. I also have a David Clark headset, but cable TV is a bit annoying. If there is a solution, it would be great to replace the airplane headset with a Bluetooth headset with a microphone.

  3. I’ve been writing a chat application to handle Bluetooth headsets / headphones. So far, I have been able to record audio files through microphones in Bluetooth headphones, and to use built-in microphones in Android devices, Recogniser Intent, and so on to do voice-to-text work.
    But I can’t find a way to get voice recognition to listen through a Bluetooth microphone. Is this possible, and if so, how?

  4. I’m working on an application that can play music or switch to call mode. In the call mode, the user will speak to the microphone and the words will be put back to the speaker in real time (using AudioTrack). I did this with a wired headset and a recognition listener.

    But on Bluetooth headsets, I can only play music using Audio Manager. When I call it speech recognition intent, it works but detects attention from the microphone. I think that’s because the Bluetooth headset microphone is only enabled on the phone.
    Is there any way to do this on Bluetooth headsets?
